Photonic Device Design
- Design and Simulation of integrated photonic structures; eg., Grating couplers, Directional Couplers, Euler Bends, Microring Resonators, Mach-Zehnder Interferometers, Multimode Interferometers, Bragg mirrors, etc...
- Design Space Exploration of optical device geometry to hit target performance specs.
- Strategic placement of active components (e.g., heaters) on photonic ICs to allow for wider process latitude, increased device yield, and to correct for temperature dependance during deployment.
Nanofabrication
- Fabrication of Thin Film Lithium Niobate ICs with electro-optic modulators and heaters.
- Process design and fabrication of Silicon photonic ICs.
- Regular use of standard nanofabrication techniques: chemical and plasma surface treatment, spin coating, optical and e-beam photolithography, development, wet and dry etching, physical and chemical vapor deposition, ellipsometry, profilometry, SEM, dicing, polishing, and wire bonding.
Optical Testing
- Fiber-to-Chip optical coupling with Edge and Grating Couplers.
